Viaggio in Dalmazia - Trip to Dalmatia (1)

Nel porto di Ancona prima della partenza
In Ancona harbour before departure

Ancona - The harbour and the city seen from the ship

Sulla nave da Spalato a Korčula
On the boat from Split to

I have managed to keep a small sketchbook during the trip to Dalmatia that I've made this summer together with two friends of mine; because of haste, crowds or other circumstances I couldn't always portray on location the best views and landscapes, but it has been a fun fixing on quick sketches the colours and feelings of some moments that I will like to remember.
These are the sketches made with water-soluble pencils during the journey on the ship, at first from the harbour of Ancona to Split, and then from Split to the enchanting island of Korčula.
During the journey, reading books and talking, we keep on dreaming on what is ahead for us, building in our minds an imaginary Dalmatia, while the real one begins to show itself through the blue of the Adriatic Sea and the magnificent light of sunny days of early August.

  3. A lovely memory of an enjoyable trip Lucia! I can't wait to see the rest of your sketchbook! Do you prefer any particular watersoluble/watercolour pencil? I like Caran D'Ache-Supracolor and Faber Castell-Albrecht Durer the most but Derwent are nice too.

  11. Thank you all for your lovely comments! I hope you'll like the rest of the sketchbook despite the fact that I often had to scrawl and mess colours in order to get my sketches finished in a very short time!
To Michael: I've used watercolour pencils Caran D'Ache Supracolor, not as a conscious choice, just because a few months ago my brother bought me as a gift an 18 pencils pack (now become 17 as I've lost the black, which is a colour I never use!).

  12. Thank you for your reply, Lucia. I love the 18 colour set too - that's the one I have. Yes, I rarely use the black or the white!
