Il Mugnone - The Mugnone

Oltre al fiume Arno, che attraversa la città e fa da sfondo ai suoi bellissimi ponti, vi sono altri piccoli fiumi la cui presenza è più discreta e a tratti nascosta, scorrendo talvolta sotto terra per gran parte del loro percorso.
Fra questi vi è il Mugnone, che nasce nelle colline a nord di Firenze e si getta in Arno a valle del grande parco delle Cascine, portando in mezzo all'asfalto e al rumore delle strade più trafficate il verde delle sue sponde e la quiete degli animali che vivono lungo il suo corso, soprattutto uccelli acquatici: garzette, gallinelle d'acqua, qualche germano reale.
Ho realizzato questo piccolo acquerello da uno dei ponti che lo attraversano, ed è stato piacevole sostare osservando le sue acque quasi ferme, mentre alle mie spalle procedeva il consueto via vai di automobili e motorini.


Besides the river Arno, which passes through the city and makes the background of its beautiful bridges, there are other small rivers whose presence is more discreet and hidden in intervals, as they sometimes flow under ground for a large part of their course.
Among these there is the Mugnone, which springs from the hills north of Florence and flows into the Arno downstream of the great park of le Cascine, bringing amid the asphalt and the noise of the most busy streets the green of its banks and the calm of the animals living along its course, mostly water birds: little egrets, common moorhens, some mallard.
I made this small watercolour from one of the bridges that cross it, and it was pleasant to stay looking at its almost still waters while in my back the usual coming and going of cars and scooters continued.
