È una gioia, soprattutto a primavera, potersi concedere una passeggiata lungo le vie che percorrono le colline intorno a Firenze. Così facendo si possono ammirare gli esterni di ville eleganti e ricche di storia, scorci di raffinati giardini, ma anche campi coltivati e residenze originariamente modeste oggi diventate pregiate per l'invidiabile posizione fra il verde e la vicinissima città.
Via di San Carlo è una di queste, e conduce a uno dei migliori punti panoramici sulla città, che non per niente ha il nome di Bellosguardo.
Per quasi tutta la sua lunghezza, la via è costeggiata da antichi muri in pietra che nascondono ai passanti le proprietà circostanti, ma non appena questi si fanno un po' più bassi, la vista si apre su paesaggi bellissimi. A un certo punto la via forma un piccolo slargo, dominato dalla presenza di una minuscola cappella a pianta ottagonale, ed è qui che mi sono fermata durante la mia passeggiata per realizzare questo disegno, che ho poi dipinto con le matite acquarellabili.
It's a delight, especially in spring, to allow oneself a walk along the streets that pass through the hills around Florence. Doing this, one can admire the outside of elegant villas full of history, views of fine gardens, but also cultivated fields and houses originally humble now become valuable for the enviable position between the green and the very close town.
Via di San Carlo is one of these streets, and it leads to one of the best panoramic viewpoints of the city, not for nothing named Bellosguardo ("Beautiful view").
For almost all its length the street is bordered by ancient stone walls keeping the surrounding properties from the passers-by, but when they get a little lower, the view opens on wonderful landscapes. At a certain point, the street forms a small widening, dominated by the presence of a tiny chapel with an octagonal plan, and here I stopped during my walk to make this drawing, that I then painted with water-soluble pencils.
