La porta chiusa

Questo è un disegno a matita che ho fatto qualche tempo fa, traendolo da una fotografia che avevo scattato durante una passeggiata nel centro di Firenze. Il portone fa parte di un palazzo del XVII secolo non lontano da piazza SS. Annunziata. Ho eseguito questo disegno senza preoccuparmi di rispettare allineamenti e proporzioni, anzi divertendomi a deformare la realtà; da questa sorta di esperimento ho tratto successivamente un acquerello. Ogni volta che torno a guardare questo lavoro, non ripenso tanto all'antico palazzo che l'ha ispirato, né alla stretta strada lastricata in pietra su cui questo si affaccia, quanto alla sensazione di esclusione che ogni porta chiusa inevitabilmente trasmette. Così, non posso fare a meno di considerare questo disegno innanzitutto come una metafora.

This is a pencil drawing that I have made some time ago, taking it from a photograph I had taken during a walk through the streets of the centre of Florence. The door is part of a XVII Century building, not very far from Piazza SS. Annunziata. I have made this drawing without taking care of respecting alignments and proportions, on the contrary I've been enjoying myself destorting reality; from this sort of experiment I later made a watercolour. Each time I turn back to this work, I don't think of the ancient building that inspired it, nor of the narrow street paved with stone overlooked by it, but I think of the feeling of exclusion that every closed door unavoidably brings. So, I can't help considering this drawing as a metaphor, first of all.
